Transitional Justice as a Way of Normalization and Democratization in a Post-Authoritarian Society
On December 10, 2018 ISSHS organized the public debate “Transitional Justice as a Way of Normalization and Democratization in a Post-Authoritarian Society.” Speakers of the event included: Gordan Georgiev (ISSHS), Xhabir Deralla (Civil), Harald Shenker (analyst) and Katerina Kolozova (ISSHS) as the moderator. The debate re-examined the existing methods of transitional justice and their adaptations to the Macedonian context. The speakers agreed that the basic instruments of the transitional justice model are the committees of truth and re-conciliation, gradual and (rarely) full amnesty and court verdicts for felonies too great to be legally sanctioned by other forms of transitional justice.
The event was part of the project “Cooperation Between Political Parties and CSO’s: Reducing the Asymmetric Power of the Executive Branch,” supported by the National Endowment for Democracy.
