Authoritarian Bending of Euro-Technocracy Illiberalism’s Devil in The Details in Southeast Europe: The Case of North Macedonia
On February 2, 2021, ISSHS hosted an open panel discussion on the ZOOM online platform – “Authoritarian Bending of Euro-Technocracy Illiberalism’s Devil in The Details in Southeast Europe: The Case of North Macedonia.” The participants were: Florian Bieber, Director of the Centre for Southeast European Studies at the University of Graz; Harun Cero, Political Scientist/Journalist with a focus on Southeast Europe; Aleksandar Krzhalovski, Director of the Macedonian Center for International Cooperation and Niccolò Milanese, Director of European Alternatives, while Gordan Georgiev (ISSHS) was in the role of moderator. They discussed about authoritarianism, nationalism, illiberal democracies from different perspectives, and ISSHS’s analysis “De-capturing the Administrative Mind: Polarization of the Relations between the Citizens and the State.”
The event was part of the project “New challenges in the overcoming of democratic backsliding in North Macedonia: ‘State capture’ and ‘illiberal democracy’ revisited in an emerging context” funded by the National Endowment for Democracy.
