OFFICIAL LANGUAGE USAGE IN MUNICIPALITIES IN THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA
The Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities- Skopje is the implementing partner of the project “Official Language Usage in Municipalities in the Republic of Macedonia,” initiated by the Office of the Higher Commissioner of National Minorities of OSCE and it covers 10 month period (February-December 2014).
Project’s aim is to review the existing practices pertaining to the use of official languages in certain municipalities and their impact on inter-ethnic relations. Project combines few research methods (interviews, survey, focus groups, roundtable discussions and desk analysis) in 11 bilingual оr trilingual municipalities.
The research will provide an accurate as possible picture of implementation of the legal framework on official languages in municipalities. Data, related challenges and perception will be summarized in recommendations which will be useful for decision-makers to improve that implementation.
